[01:03:39] <cradek> andypugh: Oct 3. The merge currently looks not too bad, but not as trivial as I prefer to see...
[01:04:08] -!- andypugh_ [andypugh_!~andy2@cpc2-basl1-0-0-cust639.basl.cable.virginmedia.com] has joined #linuxcnc-devel

[01:18:15] <cradek> andypugh: I think I've got a correct merge - testing now
[01:19:09] <cradek> well no, guess not :-/
[01:26:29] -!- PCW has quit [Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.89 [Firefox 16.0.2/20121024073032]]
[01:32:01] -!- kmiyashiro has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]

[01:37:10] <cradek> the build on master seems pretty screwy - I did my usual make -j6 and it didn't error, but it also didn't build everything; a subsequent make (no -j) built a lot of stuff, including linking everything.
[01:37:22] <cradek> fortunately a third make doesn't do anything
[01:37:33] <cradek> I doubt I broke this in the new merge...
[01:40:37] <cradek> seb_kuzminsky: your warning fix attempts cause new warnings to appear for me:
[01:40:50] <cradek> emc/usr_intf/emcrsh.cc:1074: warning: format ‘%lu’ expects type ‘long unsigned int’, but argument 3 has type ‘size_t’
[01:40:53] <cradek> emc/usr_intf/emcrsh.cc:1074: warning: format ‘%lu’ expects type ‘long unsigned int’, but argument 4 has type ‘unsigned int’
[01:49:16] -!- L84Supper has quit [Quit: puff of smoke]
[01:49:58] -!- kmiyashiro has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[01:55:15] <cradek> yuck, it builds everything if you use -j1.

[04:15:58] <KimK> Any Mesa gurus know what LBP stands for, as in SS (smart serial) LBP? How about RPC? "LBP is a simple binary master slave protocol where the host sends read, write, or RPC commands to the 7I69, and the 7I69 responds" But neither LPB or RPC is ever identified. (I'm sure it's obvious to the initiated, pretty obtuse to outsiders, though.)

[15:40:31] <kwallace> Hello. I would like to have a user account script start LinuxCNC then call "shutdown -h now" when LinuxCNC exits. Of course, shutdown is owned by root and setuid won't work in shell scripts. I'm guessing Python has the same problem. Is there another method I should look at?

[16:13:33] <kwallace_> alex_joni: I did a visudo to add "nopasswd" and "shutdown" to the user. Now, from the users terminal, "sudo shutdown -h now" shuts down immediately - kind of scary. Now I need to try it in the Startup Applications script that calls LinuxCNC.

[23:34:01] <mhaberler> I pulled master, git clean -xdf, sh autogen.sh, configure --enable-simulator, make ; that's it - I cannot discern anything 'screwy'
[23:34:41] <cradek> did you make -j6?
[23:34:44] <cradek> did you clean?
[23:36:35] <cradek> make: *** No rule to make target `../include/hiredis.h', needed by `userspace'. Stop.
[23:36:47] <cradek> this is the first sign of trouble I get
[23:36:54] <cradek> after that, the redis build continues
[23:38:25] <andypugh> make -j6 needs the right hardware, I guess?
[23:38:35] <mhaberler> how many cores
[23:38:42] <cradek> nah, you can do that on any sane machine without trouble
[23:38:59] <cradek> mhaberler: it doesn't matter, but I think I have 4
[23:41:29] <cradek> clean works at least somewhat because of our scorched-earth policy: find . -name '*.o' |xargs rm -f
[23:42:40] <cradek> ... but I don't think it calls the redis clean target which does other stuff
[23:44:07] <cradek> to make this work fully you will probably need to beat it into submission in such a way that you don't recursively invoke make on their original makefiles. their main Makefile does look pretty simple.
[23:45:06] <cradek> for example copy out REDIS_SERVER_OBJ and just build and link those files.
[23:45:38] <mhaberler> I am not going to do this because it's temporary anyway, but I can add a clean target to the redis Submakefile
[23:45:50] <cradek> what's temporary?
[23:46:18] <mhaberler> until we have a less-rotten platfom where this stuff can be pulled from a package stream
[23:46:31] <mhaberler> precise will be fine
[23:47:00] <cradek> does the precise deb build?
[23:47:16] <mhaberler> dont know
[23:48:50] <cradek> ?? https://launchpad.net/~schwuk/+archive/redis
[23:49:46] <mhaberler> please read back the discussion on the mailing list, I outlined exactly the reasons, and it is three packages, not one
[23:50:56] <mhaberler> and just having spent the better part of a week with getting this hairbrained make scheme to work with several rt platforms I am currently out of stamina
[23:52:35] <andypugh> (digression) I am never sure if it is "Hair-brianed" or "Hare-Brained". Is it a brain made of hair, inside-out, or the brain of a lagamorph larger than a rabbit?
[23:53:34] <mhaberler> I could reprodce the error with -j6
