[16:35:03] <jepler> scan-build gets a diagnostic on this file because 'v' is uninitialized
[16:35:17] <jepler> as far as I can see it's perfectly sensible code
[16:44:01] <GoSebGo> jepler: did you remove the jepler-build-test branch? It caused a (spurious?) build failure
[16:45:49] <jepler> oh, oops!
[16:45:51] <jepler> yes, I did
[16:46:02] <jepler> why did that lead to a build failure?
[16:46:26] <jepler> I know the builds hadn't all completed, but I thought they were all past the "fetch from git" step
[16:48:34] <GoSebGo> The "build & test" builds were done with rhe branch, but when they all worked the packaging builds started and tried to check the branch out
[16:48:43] <GoSebGo> No big deal

[18:29:20] <cradek> 99% of the time when picking a sample config to run, it's sim/something. Finding it involves lots of scrolling. I'd like to fix that somehow. Unfortunately renaming it SIM will put it only 5th on the list, still somewhat hidden.
[18:30:43] <cradek> IMO the sim configs aren't really "sample configurations"; they're meant to run and be used in all sorts of situations, not really as samples to be studied and customized
[18:31:52] <cradek> so considering a hacked sorting that puts them first, separating them from the samples into a third toplevel in pickconfig, ...?
[18:32:00] <cradek> anyone have thoughts?
[18:37:57] <jthornton> if you mean another level like "My Configurations" and "Sample Configurations" called "Simulations" or something like that I agree with that
[18:38:36] <cradek> yes that's what I meant
[18:40:20] <jthornton> it would be much cleaner if when you clicked on sample configs only the next level was displayed
[18:40:46] <cradek> seems like we've gone back and forth about whether the tree should start opened or closed
[18:40:51] <jthornton> would vismach also fall in the simulations folder?
[18:41:12] <cradek> I see it as "things you can run without any hardware"
[18:41:20] <jthornton> it's so long now with all the sample configs
[18:41:58] <jthornton> and not being able to resize the configuration selector makes it worse IMHO
[18:42:34] <cradek> huh I had not noticed that, but you're right
[18:42:41] <jthornton> yep that makes sense
[18:42:52] <jthornton> plasma-thc-sim is another
[18:42:57] <cradek> the non-working pgup/pgdn keys also irk me
[18:43:36] <cradek> but the real question here is whether I can figure out the tcl.
[18:43:56] <jthornton> I can ask Dewey to look at it
[18:44:04] <jthornton> he is real good with tcl
[18:44:25] <cradek> yes he and jepler would be my choices to ask
[18:44:36] <cradek> but I'm too proud to do that without at least trying first
[18:45:00] * jthornton waits for cradek to scream uncle
[18:45:44] <jthornton> looks like stepper gantry and stepper xyza should be in the same folder as the rest of the stepper configs
[18:47:00] <jthornton> now that we can have more than one level deep it makes sense to do some grouping like puma and scara in a robot folder
[18:47:10] <cradek> a lot of them are sims. demo_sim_cl, 5axis, puma/scara??, vismach, stepper/sim*
[18:48:21] <jthornton> and demo mazak
[18:48:36] <cradek> no I think that requires mazak's hardware
[18:48:49] <cradek> I bet it's so out of date it makes no sense
[18:49:07] <jthornton> yep a bit misleading on the title
[18:49:36] <jthornton> Don't expect to be able to run this as is unless you have a matching set of hardware
[18:50:18] <jthornton> back out to the shop for me

[19:54:31] <GoSebGo> I just passed all runtests in 2.5 in a realtime build on precise
[19:54:45] <GoSebGo> Using our lucid rtai kernel
[19:54:50] <GoSebGo> :-)
[19:56:17] <jepler> do you have any sense of what you give up by combining a lucid kernel and a precise distribution?
[19:56:23] <jepler> I assume you get basically none of the new hardware support...
[19:56:41] <GoSebGo> That sounds right
[19:57:23] <GoSebGo> I have not noticed anything broken in my very shallow use & testing so far
[19:58:33] <cradek> huh
[19:59:05] <cradek> you could just install the kernel and rtai packages and then it actually boots and runs?
[20:03:04] <jepler> ... who knew
[20:03:31] <jepler> ... who was brave enough to try and find out?
[20:05:45] <jepler> GoSebGo: is there any fudging of dependencies?
[20:13:28] <GoSebGo> I'm back
[20:13:59] <jthornton> cradek, what branch is the patch on?
[20:14:09] <GoSebGo> There's a trivial one-liner to rtapi/rtai_ulapi.c
[20:14:30] <GoSebGo> It wont hurt anything, i'll push it now
[20:14:53] <cradek> jthornton: that applies to master

[20:15:10] <jepler> cradek: .. and if it's --enable-simulator, don't bother showing anything not tagged as sim?
[20:15:30] <cradek> jepler: hmmm that's a good idea
[20:16:04] <cradek> I don't like adding all those files but some directories are part sim and part not - it has to be per-ini unless we rearrange it all again
[20:17:04] <CIA-68> 03seb 07v2.5_branch * r47441dc8d14e 10/src/rtapi/rtai_ulapi.c: turn on _GNU_SOURCE to expose clone() on precise
[20:19:36] <jepler> I must be overlooking where we *use* clone
[20:19:43] <jepler> git grep -w clone isn't turning it up
[20:20:49] <GoSebGo> It's in rtai, in /usr/realtime, in an inlined function in a header
[20:21:14] <jepler> er, oh
[20:21:19] <GoSebGo> rt_clone()
[20:21:24] <jepler> I see.
[20:21:53] <GoSebGo> Yesss, my fix is a quick hack
[20:22:07] <GoSebGo> A "quack"
[20:22:32] <GoSebGo> But it means we dont have to spin the kernel/rtai packages
[20:27:15] <jepler> yes
[20:44:34] <cradek> they install without trouble?
[20:46:12] <GoSebGo> No trouble at all
[20:46:19] <cradek> that's shocking
[20:47:11] <GoSebGo> grub finds it, and if you remove all the 3.2 kernels, grub boots it by default
[20:47:27] <GoSebGo> It's all surprisingly easy

[21:46:52] <jthornton> cradek, the patch looks good to me except Sample seems to be too much for Simulations
[21:53:45] <GoSebGo> cradek: you end up with a more modern userspace

[22:32:32] <micges> hi all
[22:33:11] <micges> did anyone tried to patch 3.2 kernel with rtai? or at least 2.6.38 ?
[22:33:35] <GoSebGo> jepler: a bunch of awallin's cam libraries use boost features not present in lucid
[22:33:44] <GoSebGo> hi micges
[22:33:54] <micges> I'm trying from two days and it seems to be black hole
[22:35:44] <GoSebGo> I've heard others say the same... :-(
[22:38:00] <micges> more, even remaking 2.6.32.22-rtai doesn't work, I only managed to build normal 2.6.32.41
[22:38:34] <micges> I hope that mozmck made some notes ;)

[23:03:30] <KimK> Speaking of xubuntu-desktop, and nice light-weight alternatives to Unity, I missed this April Fool's Day release on Distrowatch, maybe some of you did too. Very funny: http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20120402#humour
