[15:27:07] <skunkworks> The forum at linuxcnc seems to be down...
[15:27:51] <skunkworks> The second I said something - it starts working :)
[15:28:06] <jepler> skunkworks: you fixed it!!!!111
[15:28:51] <skunkworks> I have that effect on things....
[15:30:17] -!- TRW_Aguascalient has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[15:32:05] -!- misfitsu has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
[15:32:22] <jepler> it's better than the opposite
[15:34:33] -!- TRW_Aguascalient has quit [Client Quit]
[15:35:23] <cradek> even given a torque-limited spindle and estop when exceeding the configured torque limit as aram suggests, I don't think that would do the least bit toward the goal of avoiding breaking taps
[15:36:15] <cradek> for instance how could you possibly recover from stopping while the tap is both stuck in a hole and attached to the spindle?
[15:36:28] <cradek> (assuming it didn't break when you estopped, which it surely would...)
[15:36:38] <skunkworks> he always asks such odd questions...
[15:37:03] <cradek> it's not so odd, it seems like a sensible thing to try, but I think it's doomed
[15:37:20] <cradek> when hand tapping, you sort of use a torque limit - you don't turn the thing too hard when it seems to be sticking
[15:37:41] <cradek> so why not tell the machine to do that too, etc etc
[15:37:46] -!- x__ [x__!~x@dcb72.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl] has joined #emc-devel
[15:37:46] -!- TRW_Aguascalient has quit [Client Quit]
[15:38:03] x__ is now known as micges
[15:38:25] <skunkworks> I could see it sensing the torque - and if it exceeded the torque limit - it would reverse the tapping cycle early..
[15:39:17] <jthornton> provided the torque limit is set low enough to not break the tap
[15:39:19] <skunkworks> then stop with an error
[15:39:33] <skunkworks> right
[15:39:37] <cradek> yeah maybe that could work
[15:39:38] <jthornton> I find it much easier to just look at the tap prior to using it
[15:40:08] <skunkworks> I don't think my machine would be able to sense the spindle torque on anything less that a about a 1/2 tap or bigger.
[15:40:16] <cradek> or maybe just counting the number of holes tapped
[15:41:04] <skunkworks> I tapped about 80 1/2 inch holes in a steel fixture plate last weekend and I think I could hear the load.
[15:45:57] <skunkworks> cradek: how hard would it be to add a hal pin that would gracefully exit a tapping cycle?
[15:48:59] <jthornton> stop mid cycle and reverse out?
[15:49:20] <jthornton> then program pause or stop?
[15:49:33] -!- Mjolinor has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[15:49:45] <skunkworks> I would think that would need to be configureable also... (maybe someone would want it go keep going...)
[15:50:19] <jthornton> can't you do that with the new g code stuff in master?
[15:50:53] <skunkworks> No clue....
[15:51:39] <cradek> hardish
[15:52:12] <skunkworks> smop? ;)
[15:52:16] <cradek> exactly
[15:52:20] <jthornton> Peter just tossed in spindle inertia to the pot
[15:53:10] <skunkworks> right - my setup - the tap goes forward a good 3 + rotations before it stops.. (that could posiblly be fixed with a better vfd)
[15:54:25] <CIA-9> EMC: 03micges 07v2.5_branch * ra2fd5230409b 10/tcl/ngcgui.tcl: ngcgui: Make few buttons translatable
[15:54:56] <jthornton> I was hoping to be able to rigid tap on the BP with the GS2 VFD
[15:55:19] * jthornton is off to town bbl
[15:55:34] <skunkworks> I think pcw has come up with a easy solution... just keep track of the torque.. if it starts going above the threashold - do something (before the next tapped hole)
[15:56:15] <jthornton> that's what I do, I have a chart with the spindle load for each tap and material that has enough to register
[15:56:17] <cradek> I think you can set optional-stop with halui
[15:57:14] <cradek> if $::ngc($hdl,auto) {set text "[_ "Finalize"]"}
[15:57:32] <cradek> is that a correct spelling of [_ ?
[15:58:28] <micges> f..
[15:59:09] <cradek> I don't know tcl well, but the quotes look weird
[15:59:48] <micges> it was checked by few polish people and it works for them
[16:00:58] <micges> see other strings, all of them have that syntax of _
[16:04:34] -!- Connor has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[16:04:56] <cradek> ok thanks
[16:07:19] <micges> np, thanks also for checking
[16:17:00] <archivist> early reverse if above torque set seems sensible, one could arrange separate torque measurement (in chuck) for large machines with tiny taps
[16:17:36] <archivist> I do wonder if aram is using the right taps for the holes he is working on
[16:18:30] -!- IchGucksLive [IchGucksLive!~chatzilla@95-89-244-199-dynip.superkabel.de] has joined #emc-devel
[16:19:17] <IchGucksLive> hi all Question on this Git system to make changes i need to start with a git clone runinplace install
[16:19:42] <IchGucksLive> or can i only add or modifi at the cloned files
[16:40:33] <awallin_> you don't need to install
[16:40:49] <awallin_> but if you are making code-changes then it might be a good idea to compile+test them..
[16:43:42] <IchGucksLive> i want to develop under a git so i need tio edit the files then runinplace emc
[16:44:03] -!- syyl has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[16:44:23] <IchGucksLive> do the cghanges i made in the git folder take effect in the git state and git commit files
[16:45:46] <awallin_> yes, that sounds about right.
[16:46:03] <awallin_> if you want to commit individual files you do "git add" on them first, then "git commit"
[16:46:17] <awallin_> to commit all changes compared to the clone you do "git commit -a"
[16:46:42] <awallin_> you can look at the commit with "git diff" before you commit it
[16:46:49] <awallin_> "gitk" is also a useful tool
[16:48:25] <IchGucksLive> ill try i startet allover with the xyuv
[16:50:01] <IchGucksLive> why does the start from the git folder show me the same file that is in the real install loadet on the axis_mm mashine is the Ayispreferences shared
[16:51:20] <awallin_> ? the config-picker might autodetect where you have configs. if you mean that?
[16:52:42] -!- mhaberler [mhaberler!~mhaberler@mk089144206037.a1.net] has joined #emc-devel
[16:53:21] <IchGucksLive> ok for the modification it is importend to load a foam mashine setup otherwise the screen keeps clean
[16:53:36] <IchGucksLive> i will do my best
[17:00:02] <IchGucksLive> awallin_: do you now if i can get the units that the G-code ngc is in G21 G20 someware the ini holds the mashine Units
[17:07:11] <CIA-9> EMC: 03micges 07v2.5_branch * r118f55f7443b 10/src/po/pl.po: Polish translation update
[17:08:44] -!- micges has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[17:09:17] <jepler> if it's about interpreting the distance in the "grid" comments, it's somewhere inside self.state.mcodes or .gcodes
[17:09:24] <jepler> give me a moment to be more specific
[17:10:09] <IchGucksLive> i think this is it i search the cative g_code
[17:10:26] <IchGucksLive> is ther also G17.1
[17:10:38] <IchGucksLive> if it is in the ngc
[17:10:50] -!- A2Sheds has quit [Quit: puff of smoke]
[17:14:31] <jepler> probably what you should use is 'if 200 in self.state.gcodes:' (or 'if 210')
[17:14:53] <jepler> the modal gcodes are multiplied by 10
[17:15:11] <IchGucksLive> ok
[17:15:37] <jepler> 'if 171 in self.state.gcodes' seems to work as well
[17:16:04] <jepler> though I admit I don't know what G17.1 even does :-/
[17:16:25] <IchGucksLive> i need this in GLCannon comment or in GlcanonDraw better to use it there where i reed the comment and then set the var to the internal unit direct
[17:17:10] <IchGucksLive> G17.1 sets the Mashine to the XYUV state so there are 2 cones and 2 planes
[17:17:47] <IchGucksLive> jepler: did you see the video on youtube im pretty shoure you did
[17:18:44] <jepler> no, I haven't.

[17:23:39] <awallin_> IchGucksLive: do you have a video of actual cutting on a foamcutter?
[17:26:42] <IchGucksLive> there are alot on the youtube with emc using xy mashines
[17:26:55] -!- acemi has quit [Quit: WeeChat 0.3.2]

[17:31:27] -!- mhaberler [mhaberler!~mhaberler@mk089144206119.a1.net] has joined #emc-devel
[17:36:26] <jepler> It seems that G17.1 sets the plane for certain canned cycles. So on a 5-axis machine you can do a G81 drill in the UV plane (in the coordinate system of the rotated tool). So enabling the foamcutter mode just based on G17.1 being programmed will be problematic
[17:37:50] <IchGucksLive> foamcutter do not drill
[17:38:09] <IchGucksLive> so i decidet to use this as it is the iso for UV plane
[17:41:22] <jepler> it's important that any existing behavior of emc or axis for non-xyuv machines is preserved
[17:41:23] -!- mhaberler has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[17:41:42] <archivist> would a foam cutter be similar to wire edm which probably could drill
[17:42:49] <jepler> I don't know much about foam cutters; I'll take IchGucksLive's word for it if they don't conceptualize any operation as a drill or use canned cycles
[17:43:10] <jepler> there are no motorized Z or W axes on these machines (at least not necessarily)
[17:44:29] <jepler> I'd rather that "the way axis shows stuff" is controlled by inifile items or menu items. Making it depend on programming G17.1 in the part program is not in line with the way other display options are done
[17:47:11] -!- syyl_ has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
[17:48:12] <IchGucksLive> Thanks the most EDM have a Z on winch UV is mounted
[17:48:43] <IchGucksLive> therfore the Z distance is needet for the 2 plane distance
[17:50:26] <IchGucksLive> my post processor also needs the Z for the XY plane so the part can be fixt in the work room normaly its 5mm between wire entrence and part for xy and also 5mm between uv plane and wirer out
[17:50:41] <IchGucksLive> as the wire comes from top to bottem

[21:31:05] <andypugh> Ah, yes, I see them.
[21:31:31] -!- issy has quit [Quit: Bye Bye]
[21:33:28] <andypugh> But there are no links in the man page as far as I know, so I don't understand the source of the broken link
[21:34:35] <JT-Shop> down at the bottom of the page it shows the link when you view the man page
[21:36:12] <JT-Shop> it says Image grohtml-288711.png
[21:37:05] <andypugh> Yes, it does, but there is no link in the bldc.comp source, and from that point on it is all auto-generated. http://git.linuxcnc.org/gitweb?p=emc2.git;a=blob;f=src/hal/components/bldc.comp;h=57354fc62f91a95008cdeda8bc62a2256919a479;hb=refs/heads/v2.5_branch
[21:37:40] <JT-Shop> odd
[21:56:11] <jepler> on the doc building machine, there are a number of grohtml-*.png file produced, one of which matches the number in that link, but they're all zero-length

[22:03:41] <jepler> it also fixes a pair of warnings during the html doc build:
[22:03:42] <jepler> ./man9/bldc_hall3.9:133: `\}' is invalid within \X
[22:03:52] <jepler> (yeah, that cleared everything up, particularly as there is no \X)
[22:04:32] <JT-Shop> jepler: did you push the hal config fix to 2.5? I pushed Dewey's to master
