[13:13:58] <CIA-89> EMC: 03jepler 07v2.4_branch * r93eb9a2d6d14 10/src/hal/utils/halcmd.c: halcmd: show errno for failed exec
[17:49:13] <LawrenceG> no kidding... one of these days I'll have to have a go at adding lathe modes to big johns arcbuddy program
[18:04:08] <seb_kuzminsky> does Flying Electron's latest email make sense to anyone?
[18:04:39] <seb_kuzminsky> "using an on-board serial port causes a square wave to appear on the 7i43 gpio inputs"
[18:04:59] <jepler> hi seb. can you fix http://emc2-buildbot.colorado.edu/~buildmaster/ to have the right lines for emc2-buildbot.list?
[18:05:04] <cradek> huh
[18:05:09] <alex_joni> hmmm.. the only thing I can think of is watchdog tripping
[18:05:09] <jepler> the v2.4_branch lines are all wrong
[18:05:18] <cradek> that's a really fuxxed motherboard if the serial port doesn't work
[18:05:33] <seb_kuzminsky> jepler: what's wrong with them?
[18:05:39] <seb_kuzminsky> oh missing hardy
[18:05:40] <seb_kuzminsky> oops
[18:05:49] <seb_kuzminsky> * seb_kuzminsky blushes
[18:05:52] <jepler> shouldn't it say deb http://emc2-buildbot.colorado.edu/~buildmaster hardy v2.4_branch ?
[18:06:00] <cradek> (I guess it wouldn't surprise me if some motherboards have badly-working serial ports on them)
[18:06:01] <jepler> master-rt shouldn't be there at all
[18:06:08] <alex_joni> v2.4_branch master-rt
[18:06:12] <jepler> alex_joni: but the watchdog doesn't automatically un-watchdog itself..
[18:06:37] <alex_joni> jepler: maybe he has petting the watchdog in a thread
[18:06:45] <seb_kuzminsky> lol what was i thinking when i wrote that
[18:06:46] <alex_joni> but the serial port causes bad latency which interrupts it
[18:06:47] <jepler> that would be just stupid
[18:06:58] <seb_kuzminsky> petting the watchdog doesnt un-hork the 7i43 if it's bitten
[18:07:13] <jepler> there's petting the watchdog and there's resetting it
[18:07:20] <jepler> you have to do something (set a pin to 0) to reset it
[18:07:40] <alex_joni> well.. without a look over his hal files it's just guessing
[18:07:42] <jepler> that's an unusual, non-default configuration that would deserve mention
[18:07:58] <jepler> oooh it's lunchtime here
[18:07:58] <jepler> bbl
[18:08:43] <jepler> what if he's unexpectedly using the pin as an output too, possibly configured as open collector? Then he could be getting the value he's driving onto the pin or the value from the connected button
[18:08:54] <jepler> anyway, too hard to tell from here, but it sounds like nonsense
[18:09:20] <JanVanGilsen> alex_joni, The vismach of the Puma560 you made is not exactly the same as a real puma 560
[18:09:36] <seb_kuzminsky> jepler: fixed http://emc2-buildbot.colorado.edu/~buildmaster/, i think
[18:09:48] <alex_joni> JanVanGilsen: I started from skunkworks_'s puma drawing
[18:10:00] <alex_joni> seb_kuzminsky: can you add a link to the wiki page describing new config changes?
[18:10:52] <skunkworks_> JanVanGilsen: http://www.electronicsam.com/images/puma/pumaarm.jpg
[18:10:52] <alex_joni> seb_kuzminsky: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?UPDATING#Changes_between_2_3_x_and_2_4_x
[18:10:59] <JanVanGilsen> Yes, Actually thats the drawing of a Puma 550 (the 5 axis model)
[18:11:20] <seb_kuzminsky> alex_joni: you want that link on the buildmaster page saying how to install the 2.4 debs?
[18:11:39] <alex_joni> seb_kuzminsky: no, what to do with the configs to run 2.4
[18:12:11] <JanVanGilsen> I have drawings of both the 550 and 560 model, if you want I can mail them to you
[18:12:24] <alex_joni> JanVanGilsen: would be great
[18:13:28] <seb_kuzminsky> alex_joni: ah, i think you want me to update the wiki page with changes required to hostmot2 configs when going from 2.3 to 2.4
[18:13:48] <alex_joni> seb_kuzminsky: hmm.. that might be good, but not what I had in mind
[18:13:59] <seb_kuzminsky> alex_joni: ok then i'm totally confused.
[18:14:01] <alex_joni> I was thinking about placing a link on the buildbot page:
[18:14:19] <alex_joni> when you want to try out experimental 2.4 packages, follow (link to wiki) to update your config
[18:14:28] <alex_joni> otherwise your pre-2.4 config won't start
[18:15:27] <seb_kuzminsky> oh, sure, good idea
[18:16:33] <JanVanGilsen> Its a +/-5 mb file.
[18:21:59] <seb_kuzminsky> alex_joni: like this? http://emc2-buildbot.colorado.edu/~buildmaster/
[18:22:10] <JanVanGilsen> alex_joni, The drawings you should look at are on page 155 and 160
[18:25:23] <JanVanGilsen> The outer link assembly is different for the 6 axis version because it has to hold an extra motor. as you can see, there is an offset between joint 3 and 4
[18:26:15] <alex_joni> seb_kuzminsky: perect
[18:30:29] <JanVanGilsen> seb_kuzminsky, alex_joni: I also have a copy of "The Unimation Puma servo system" with a lot of useful information on the Puma including comparison of the DH parameters found in different studies
[18:31:22] <JanVanGilsen> It helped me a lot in finding the right gear ratio's etc...
[18:36:50] <JanVanGilsen> skunkworks, if you want i can send you the "The Unimation Puma servo system" file ?
[21:22:39] <alex_joni> huh
