[02:37:00] <CIA-5> EMC: 03jthornton 07master * r98635d627393 10/docs/src/gcode/main.lyx: add more info on G64
[18:52:16] <micges> cradek: hi
[18:55:01] <micges> iirc you have lathe under emc
[18:56:16] <micges> does your machine have some mechanical problems like backlash, screw comp?
[18:57:06] <cradek> no it is about perfect
[18:57:19] <cradek> no backlash comp
[18:58:20] <micges> oh
[19:00:08] <CIA-5> EMC: 03jepler 07master * r9d1e4ae0c2f0 10/scripts/emcmkdesktop.in: fixed desktop links failing to load if config dir contains spaces
[19:00:09] <CIA-5> EMC: 03jepler 07master * r154bfafe901b 10/docs/src/Submakefile: add anchors for manpage listings
[19:00:33] <micges> cradek: we have haas lathe that has cone compensation(?) as a parameter in tool table and I wonder if this is proper solution for emc if we add it someday
[19:01:03] <cradek> why in the tool table? it would apply equally to all tools
[19:01:25] <micges> that why it makes me wonder
[19:01:47] <micges> simmilar to screw comp I think
[19:02:44] <jepler> by "cone compensation" do you mean compensation for X and Z not being perpendicular?
[19:03:16] <cradek> yes (which is properly fixed with a scraper)
[19:03:56] <jepler> http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?ContributedComponents#millkins_trivial_kinematics_extended_by_XY_skew_correction
[19:04:06] <jepler> if there's a software fix it's simply this adapted to be XZ instead of XY
[19:05:19] <micges> yes but another wise guy said that skew doesn't have to be linear
[19:05:57] <micges> and I don't have idea how to easly do this
[19:06:19] <micges> (how this easly can be done)
[19:06:59] <cradek> a very worn machine will have an arc, because wear is more in the center
[19:07:07] <cradek> that too is fixed with a scraper
[19:08:10] <micges> cradek: what do you mean by scraper?
[19:09:20] <cradek> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_scraper
[19:10:38] <jepler> micges: I think cradek is saying to repair the broken lathe, not try to fix it in software
[19:10:58] <cradek> yes
[19:11:35] <cradek> yeah, IMO any software 'fix' for slideway wear is a fool's task
[19:12:50] <micges> cradek: that's opinion is what I needed, thanks
[19:13:06] <cradek> I'm surprised you feel that way :-)
[20:35:32] <Dave911> cradek: How time consuming is it to straighten a way with a scraper? That sounds like a multiday job with really tired arms...?
[20:36:25] <cradek> Dave911: depends how far out it is, and how good you are with the scraper, I'm sure
[20:36:37] <cradek> if it's bad, I think a way grinder can be used first
[20:36:45] <cradek> there's a whole art to it and I don't know it :-)
[20:37:25] <Dave911> I'd like try that someday ....
[20:37:27] <Dave911> At the York, PA cabin fever show last year there was a guy there demonstrating the use of a scraper to correct machine errors but the crowd surrounded him and I couldn't see what he was doing..
[21:27:37] <jthornton> what is BIAS in the [AXIS] section of a servo config?
[21:57:53] <jepler> jthornton: it appears that pncconf uses this for pid.N.bias
[21:58:20] <tfmacz> LawrenceG, hey....
[21:58:53] <jepler> actually, core_servo.hal (m5i20 and others) and hm2-servo.hal (all hostmot2 systems) use [AXIS_#]BIAS for the same purpose
[21:59:18] <jepler> the function of bias is explained in the pid manpage
[22:06:37] <jt-plasma> thanks jepler
