[21:21:37] <christel> [Global Notice] Hi all, It would appear one of our US client servers have fallen off the edge of the discwo^H^H^H^H^H^Hinternet and all but vanished! We're looking into the issue now and hope to have it back soon. Affected users ~3K. Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for flying freenode!
[22:53:36] <BigJohnT> hmm I have a GS2 VFD with lights on sitting on my desk hint hint SWPadnos
[22:58:51] <chester88> Hey john you got your vfd hooked up now?
[22:59:06] <BigJohnT> yes Chris
[22:59:23] <BigJohnT> I was just working up a config to test it with
[23:07:43] <BigJohnT> hmm I dont' see the pins showing up
[23:09:26] <alex_joni> jepler: like your schedule
[23:11:00] <BigJohnT> looks good to me too... what would be required to move to 8.04 lyx?
[23:11:52] <jepler> BigJohnT: have to create a package on 6.06 that knows how to translate the lyx files to the 6.06 format (the software exists, I just have to put it in a .deb package for 6.06)
[23:12:07] <jepler> and I have to modify the makefiles so that they perform that translation in the course of making the html documentation
[23:12:13] <jepler> basically, I just have to work on it for a weekend day
[23:12:27] <jepler> and hope there are no issues I haven't anticipated
[23:12:34] <BigJohnT> ok
[23:12:54] <alex_joni> otoh, no real advantage for 2.3.x
[23:13:03] <alex_joni> except that it gets postponed a bit
[23:13:30] <jepler> alex_joni: that's true; at this point I think almost anyone who's going to edit docs for 2.3.x has already set up the 6.06 environment required
[23:13:40] <jepler> that would be probably the lowest thing on my list to try to do before 2.3...
[23:14:01] <BigJohnT> it's not an issue here I have a 6.06 machine just for that
[23:15:58] <alex_joni> and joints_axes should _definately_ stay out of 2.3
[23:16:27] <alex_joni> I mean I started doing that, but it will probably take a lot of effort still to get it right
[23:16:46] <alex_joni> (right now it starts up a scara config, but that's about it .. the rest is a mess :D)
[23:17:24] <BigJohnT> yea, I have GS2 VFD pins
[23:21:58] <chester88> John I looked in the manual for your VFD to see about using CL with it. I have to add some options I think to CL as the vfd doesn't use 8 N 1 settings for serial port.
[23:22:56] <cradek> jepler: thanks for doing htat
[23:22:57] <cradek> that
[23:23:17] <BigJohnT> Chris, I'm looking
[23:25:48] <BigJohnT> looks like I can configure it to just about any communication protocol
[23:26:53] <BigJohnT> chester88: do I need classicladder to communicate with the GS2?
[23:28:11] <jepler> BigJohnT: there's a driver specific to the gs2 that SWPadnos wrote, at least on TRUNK
[23:28:24] <BigJohnT> yes, that is what I'
[23:28:27] <jepler> in principle classicladder is another choice
[23:28:31] <BigJohnT> m attempting to connect
[23:28:45] <jepler> if you're using that then it should not be necessary to involve classicladder
[23:28:51] <jepler> my impression anyway
[23:28:57] <BigJohnT> thanks jepler
[23:29:10] <chester88> Oh well if you can do 8 N 1 then I can make a sample program for you. You can use SWPadnos program or classicladder (modbus is supported in Cl in trunk of course).
[23:29:49] <BigJohnT> I'll test it with both so I can add the examples to the manual
[23:30:20] <BigJohnT> hmm it does 8N2 not 8N1
[23:30:36] <BigJohnT> all the 8 bit frames are 11 characters
[23:31:28] <BigJohnT> It will do 8N2, 8E1, 8O1 and the same for 7bits
[23:33:01] <chester88> Now Chris prays it works lol. Dave Keeton has used MODBUS with success. Yes thats what the manual said. CL currently only does 8 N 1 and my testing with anything else bombed.
[23:33:45] <CIA-48> EMC: 03bigjohnt 07TRUNK * 10emc2/docs/src/hal/basic_hal.lyx: or2 is not a userspace component what was I thinking
[23:35:34] <BigJohnT> I'll test SWPadnos then if I can figure out what to connect to what :)
[23:37:17] <alex_joni> use him all up, but leave some
[23:37:36] <BigJohnT> LOL
[23:37:52] <BigJohnT> you plug him in and I'll test him
[23:38:01] <BigJohnT> where is my megger
[23:40:08] <alex_joni> off to bed (for real now), good night all
[23:40:24] <BigJohnT> good night
[23:42:14] <chester88> good night
[23:42:48] <BigJohnT> well programming the GS2 is a breeze...
