Back
[00:32:18] <cradek> it may have been an accident, like when you responded twice
[01:27:33] <jmkasunich> cradek: dunno - my accident was a browser refresh, less than a minute after the original post
[01:27:42] <jmkasunich> the 2nd report was about 7-8 hours later
[03:28:20] <cradek> jmkasunich: I'm just being generous
[03:28:28] <cradek> never attribute to malice etc etc etc
[03:29:00] <cradek> the good news for the night, for me at least, is that I've changed from being surprised if my car runs again to being surprised if it doesn't
[03:30:12] <cradek> two of the valves are now quite free and the third is pretty free
[03:30:29] <cradek> a few more days of penetrating oil and jiggling should do it
[03:30:48] <cradek> then I just have to fix the original problem, which I suspect is plugged oil passages in the rockers
[03:32:12] <cradek> * cradek talks animatedly to himself
[03:37:44] <jmkasunich> heh
[03:37:50] <jmkasunich> glad to hear it
[03:37:57] <cradek> yeah I'm pretty thrilled
[03:37:59] <cradek> (and surprised)
[03:38:12] <cradek> I also (painstakingly) bent the pushrods back into shape
[03:38:22] <cradek> I may not have to hunt for parts at all
[03:38:29] <jmkasunich> hoping to completely avoid the junkyards eh
[03:38:53] <cradek> yeah I was "wearing" a dozen ticks last time I went (I bet it was also late summer then)
[03:39:04] <jmkasunich> yuck
[03:39:12] <cradek> I really like going to junkyards and hunting for parts, but ticks are icky
[03:39:17] <jmkasunich> thats why you wear long pants and sleeves
[03:39:25] <cradek> I did!
[03:39:28] <cradek> well pants anyway
[03:39:28] <jmkasunich> wow
[03:39:35] <cradek> they were all "below the waist", ugh
[03:39:45] <jmkasunich> clever little bastards
[03:39:52] <cradek> I'll try evil chemicals next time
[03:39:54] <jmkasunich> duct tape the pants cuffs maybe
[03:40:02] <cradek> good idea
[03:40:18] <cradek> I've also heard you should wear your socks on the outside of your pants
[03:40:23] <jmkasunich> haz-mat suit
[03:40:30] <cradek> yep
[03:40:34] <a-l-p-h-a> any of you guys have personal experience with the CD-boot ubuntu iso?
[03:40:45] <cradek> sure
[03:40:53] <jmkasunich> the standard ubuntu live CD? yep
[03:40:58] <a-l-p-h-a> how'd you save your settings to a usb key?
[03:41:05] <a-l-p-h-a> yeah, the standard live cd.
[03:41:19] <cradek> settings?
[03:41:28] <a-l-p-h-a> personal settings.
[03:41:33] <a-l-p-h-a> so that it'll load them on bootup again
[03:41:44] <cradek> no idea, sorry
[03:42:48] <a-l-p-h-a> k
[03:43:48] <jmkasunich> oh, I never actually used it much - just booted it and installed to hard disk
[03:43:56] <a-l-p-h-a> yeah.
[03:44:03] <a-l-p-h-a> well... I can't exactly do that to a work computer. :)
[03:44:08] <jmkasunich> actually using a computer from a live CD for more than a short time would make me nutz
[03:44:13] <jmkasunich> vmware!
[03:44:21] <a-l-p-h-a> too slow
[03:44:29] <jmkasunich> bet its faster than a live CD
[03:44:34] <cradek> it's pretty decent actually
[03:44:40] <a-l-p-h-a> I've got a USB key, 1gig.
[03:44:44] <a-l-p-h-a> err 2gig
[03:44:43] <cradek> be sure to install the vmware tools
[03:45:18] <jmkasunich> the nice thing about vmware is that you don't have to reboot to bop back and forth from linux to whatever the host OS is (probably doze)
[03:45:40] <cradek> man, do people still use windows at workplaces? good grief.
[03:46:12] <jmkasunich> don't rub it in
[03:46:53] <cradek> sorry, it's just otherworldly to me to use that
[03:47:05] <cradek> it's been a long time
[03:52:33] <a-l-p-h-a> we're a programming house... for php... I would like linux, with gnome or kde...
[03:53:54] <a-l-p-h-a> I'm off.
[03:53:56] <a-l-p-h-a> ciao
[12:17:36] <Guest342> Guest342 is now known as skunkworks_
[18:21:23] <alex_joni> hi
[18:21:30] <jepler> what's up alex_joni ?
[18:21:51] <alex_joni> gotta pack.. no real interest in doing that
[18:22:42] <jepler> yeah I know what you mean
[18:22:51] <alex_joni> going to germany tomorrow
[18:23:16] <alex_joni> back on friday though
[18:23:34] <jepler> may the work you're there to do go smoothly
[18:23:49] <alex_joni> no work really
[18:23:53] <jepler> oh?
[18:23:59] <alex_joni> I'm going to look at some laser-hybrid welding
[18:24:09] <alex_joni> laser-mig welding
[18:24:26] <jepler> oh
[18:24:35] <jepler> sounds neat but over my head
[18:25:08] <alex_joni> well.. I'll take some pictures
[18:25:33] <alex_joni> and I need to get some 3D models for the simulation software I got
