[12:11:44] <jmkasunich_> jmkasunich_ is now known as jmkasunich
[14:50:52] <cradek_> cradek_ is now known as cradek
[14:54:15] <SWPadnos> wtf? something doesn't work because it's misconfigured!
[14:54:48] <cradek> I hope I stopped the tirade in time...
[14:54:57] <SWPadnos> heh
[15:07:49] <skunkworks> It almost seems as if he is starting to like emc.. :)
[15:08:25] <SWPadnos> impossible!
[15:08:46] <skunkworks> 2 quotes today to that effect.. scary
[15:09:07] <cradek> WHAT THE HELL YOU GUYS HAVE SOME SERIOUS BUGS oh I just did something wrong forget it
[15:12:02] <skunkworks> jmkasunich sure seems to be here a lot durring the day.. summer vacation?
[16:39:33] <cradek> Rule: Block Unacceptable Language
[16:39:38] <cradek> Found: Script Spam - Offensive Language (Extensive) Triggered in Body
[16:39:40] <cradek> Expression: old fart Triggered 1 times weighting 60
[16:39:44] <cradek> hahaha
[16:39:46] <cradek> ^^ gene's message triggered someone's craptacular spam filter
[16:40:03] <cradek> apparently, because it contained the word "fart"
[16:40:04] <SWPadnos> heh
[17:19:19] <lerneaen_hydra> haha :D
[18:03:31] <jmkasunich> lol
[18:03:50] <jmkasunich> I wish I was really on vacation, but its just another "wait for the plumber" day
[18:03:59] <jmkasunich> getting quotes on my sewer work
[18:04:10] <cradek> but waiting for the plumber means not going to work...
[18:04:18] <jmkasunich> this is true
[18:04:32] <jmkasunich> and even better, the DSLR I ordered arrived a little while ago
[18:05:00] <cradek> fun
[18:05:14] <jmkasunich> * jmkasunich waits very very very impatiently for the battery to charge
[18:05:31] <SWPadnos> which one did you get?
[18:05:41] <jmkasunich> pentax K10D
[18:05:48] <SWPadnos> hmm. never heard of it :)
[18:06:21] <jmkasunich> its on a par with the Nikon D80 (some would say better, but a bit less $$)
[18:06:39] <SWPadnos> interesting
[18:11:08] <jmkasunich> pleasant surprize on the lens - it is advertised to focus down to 1.64ft (20") but actually goes down to 16"
[18:11:32] <jmkasunich> (and yes, I checked to make sure it goes to infinity/slightly past as well)
[18:23:57] <skunkworks> dad (and I) really like his d80? nicon dslr. seems you can't take a bad picture.
[18:24:04] <skunkworks> or it is very hard. ;)
[18:24:20] <skunkworks> nikon
[18:24:21] <jepler> I take plenty of bad pictures with my canon .. maybe I should switch brands
[18:24:26] <skunkworks> ;)
[18:24:44] <skunkworks> we should probably define 'bad'
[18:24:48] <cradek> hmm, what if I take all bad pictures
[18:28:19] <skunkworks> I wonder how you confuse a iso as a pdf?
[18:28:32] <cradek> thanks for helping him
[18:28:48] <jepler> skunkworks: you mean, what the hell is wrong with adobe that they associate their application with the .iso extension?
[18:29:17] <skunkworks> that is funny - I just assumed he had did a file - open
[18:29:55] <skunkworks> or he clicked on it - there was no association for it in windows and because he really wanted the pdf - he picked adobe.
[18:31:34] <jepler> yeah who knows
[18:32:32] <jepler> from the little bit I come into contact with windows, adobe seems to be one of those companies that likes to "take over" things -- ingrid's dad's PC comes up with some adobe "pay us or you might not be able to access your pictures!" nagware whenever he hooks up his camera to the USB port, for instance
[18:33:30] <jepler> (it's a trial version of photo album / library software of some sort and he seems unsure exactly when, why, or how it got installed)
[18:33:37] <skunkworks> yah - there is tons of software like that. Dell send new computers with lots of 30day trial software.
[18:33:49] <cradek> computers come with software?
[18:33:54] <skunkworks> heh
[18:34:00] <cradek> since when!?
[18:34:30] <cradek> next you'll tell me they come already assembled in cases
[18:35:29] <skunkworks> :) I used to build the computers for work here. but when you can get a 'decent' dell for under 450 dollars. it doesn't pay.
[18:35:41] <cradek> yeah
[18:37:14] <skunkworks> well - I do have 2 coworkers here converted to ubuntu for their home use.
[18:37:25] <skunkworks> that sounds a bit funny - doesn't it
[18:39:53] <SWPadnos> how about the $150 Linux laptop?
[18:40:11] <SWPadnos> http://www.medisoncelebrity.com/
[18:41:07] <skunkworks> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id_kGL3M5Cg&mode=related&search=
[18:41:19] <jmkasunich> wonder what linux they use?
[18:41:27] <SWPadnos> red hat, I think it said
[18:42:06] <SWPadnos> hmm. maybe it didn't say
[18:42:45] <jmkasunich> its fedora
[18:42:54] <jmkasunich> # Q: How does Linux work?
[18:42:54] <jmkasunich> A:The Linux version that comes with the laptop is Fedora from RedHat and is not too much different from using Windows or MacOS, but if you feel like having Windows, you can purchase license from Microsoft.
[18:43:04] <SWPadnos> ah - maybe it did say ;)
[18:43:46] <SWPadnos> it does have a CD/DVD drive as well, so you could load whatever you like
[18:43:57] <jmkasunich> yeah
[18:44:12] <SWPadnos> I'm almost curious enough to order one
[18:44:12] <jmkasunich> on your own for support tho
[18:44:25] <SWPadnos> just like any commercial laptop with Linux installed ...
[18:44:51] <SWPadnos> on a separate note:
http://www.acrosser.com/Product/Embedded%20PC/Embedded%20Systems/embedded_system_celeronM_ar-es0892.html
[18:44:59] <SWPadnos> they have several tiny embedded PCs with PCI slots
[18:45:02] <jmkasunich> lol - somebody calls tech support and says "I have your laptop, with windows XP installed, and I have a problem..." "sorry sir, we don't support windows, only linux"
[18:45:11] <SWPadnos> and a couple with PCI and PCI-express
[18:45:17] <SWPadnos> heh
[18:45:54] <SWPadnos> I think I'll be getting a 5i22 soon - how's the mesa FPGA stuff coming?
[18:47:24] <SWPadnos> it'll be interesting to see how much stuff can fit in 1.5M gates of a Spartan III
[18:52:52] <skunkworks> that is quite the deal- it would be worth it for a throw around portable
[18:56:57] <SWPadnos> yeah. not a super performer or super graphics, but it seems very nice and compact
[18:57:07] <SWPadnos> 2.2 kg with battery is pretty amazing
[18:58:33] <skunkworks> it would be probably on par with my 6 year old portable that I am still using
[18:58:37] <SWPadnos> heh
[18:58:58] <SWPadnos> considerably more powerful, but much worse graphics, than my 6-year old laptop that I'm still using :)
[18:59:58] <skunkworks> Mobile PentiumĀ® 4 processor,1.7 GHz-M 15.0 XGA
[19:00:10] <SWPadnos> taht's yours?
[19:00:12] <SWPadnos> that
[19:00:14] <skunkworks> yes
[19:00:23] <SWPadnos> hmmm. it can't be 6 years old then
[19:00:36] <skunkworks> October 15, 2002 2:22 PM
[19:00:41] <skunkworks> 5? ;)
[19:00:50] <SWPadnos> that's 5+7 months
[19:00:56] <SWPadnos> 5 yr + 7 mo
[19:01:11] <skunkworks> almost 6 - I round up
[19:01:15] <SWPadnos> I actually bought mine around May of 2001
[19:01:43] <SWPadnos> P3 1 GHz, 15" 1400x1050 LCD
[19:02:03] <SWPadnos> it was one of the first 15" laptops with the higher resolution
[19:02:05] <skunkworks> I think mine is 1024X768 - way too small
[19:02:16] <SWPadnos> yep - that's XGA
[19:02:41] <skunkworks> does do dual monitors though (if you count the lcd as dual)
[19:02:46] <SWPadnos> heh
[19:03:08] <SWPadnos> I'm not sure mine does. it can clone to the external display (VGA, video, or S-video)
[19:03:28] <skunkworks> keyboard is finally acting up. The right arrow key is sticking randomly.
[19:03:45] <SWPadnos> and it doesn't do proper scaling, so if I want to display on a TV, I have to match the desktop resolution to the CRT, or set it to 1024x768 or something
[19:07:51] <alex_joni> hi guys
[19:08:44] <SWPadnos> hi lLex
[19:08:47] <SWPadnos> Alex
[19:13:59] <skunkworks> ;) 16MB DDR 4X AGP NVIDIA GeForce2 Go2122Vid
[19:14:24] <SWPadnos> shared memory ATI Rage-XL :)
[19:14:38] <SWPadnos> or is that the little new guy?
[19:15:35] <skunkworks> No - the new guy is via
[19:15:46] <SWPadnos> right - just re-read that
[19:18:46] <skunkworks> it did only have a 20gb hard drive.. but finally stuck a 80gb drive in it.. Or was it 120gb.
[19:18:51] <skunkworks> something like that
[19:19:44] <skunkworks> and FREE! Largon Chameleon Mega Digital Camera
[19:19:54] <skunkworks> ;)
[19:20:15] <SWPadnos> Largan?
[19:20:35] <skunkworks> it is spelled largon in the email from dell
[19:20:48] <SWPadnos> interesting
[19:20:52] <skunkworks> it sucked
[19:21:04] <SWPadnos> I know a company called Largan that OEMs crappy digital cameras, and makes lens assemblies
[19:21:11] <skunkworks> like a 30 dollar walmart camera
[19:21:20] <SWPadnos> right
[19:21:34] <SWPadnos> or the $10 Walgreen's "one-time-use" cameras
[19:21:57] <skunkworks> http://www.largan.com/
[19:22:06] <skunkworks> I guess dell spelled it wrong
[19:22:57] <SWPadnos> them's the ones
[19:23:40] <skunkworks> heh - Ie will not get past the flash intro ;)
[19:24:02] <SWPadnos> click the "Enter Site' link in the flash
[19:24:16] <alex_joni> click the "get a real browser" link below
[19:24:27] <SWPadnos> no, real browsers also don't work right :)
[19:24:28] <skunkworks> wow - you have to click on the E on enter site
[19:24:42] <SWPadnos> that's what I had to do with Mozilla as well
[19:25:41] <skunkworks> this is the quality of pictures out of it
http://www.electronicsam.com/images/CAR001.jpg
[19:25:59] <alex_joni> yuck
[19:26:04] <skunkworks> yep
[19:26:15] <alex_joni> actually it's loading now
[19:26:30] <alex_joni> it's kinda like my cellphone
[19:26:51] <alex_joni> * alex_joni likes his 'new' cell
[19:27:00] <skunkworks> what is it?
[19:27:08] <alex_joni> Sony Ericsson w880i
[19:28:06] <skunkworks> * skunkworks is happy with is kyocera kx5
[19:28:52] <alex_joni> skunkworks:
http://www.mobile-review.com/review/image/sonyeric/w880/live/live06.jpg
[19:28:56] <skunkworks> alex_joni: have you gotten emc to run on it yet?
[19:29:35] <alex_joni> ummm
[19:29:46] <alex_joni> not yet
[19:30:11] <skunkworks> nice. (wasn't it an ericsson that someone suposidly got ubuntu running on it?)
[19:30:32] <skunkworks> didn't you post that video?
[19:30:53] <alex_joni> nope..
[19:31:05] <skunkworks> hmm
[19:31:09] <alex_joni> but even without ubuntu .. it's quite amazing what they managed to stick in there
[19:32:08] <skunkworks> http://youtube.com/watch?v=QyVJgw-H5l8
[19:32:14] <skunkworks> p990i
[21:51:55] <SWPadnos> I just read the mdi in estop-reset bug from petev - it isn't what I understood from talking to Alex
[21:52:28] <SWPadnos> it seems that there should be a queue flush when going into machine on - there's no reason for any pending commands to execute
[21:52:59] <SWPadnos> I can see the argument that there should be no commands queued while in estop-reset as well
