Back
[01:47:37] <Guest127> Guest127 is now known as skunkworks
[03:12:35] <cradek> darn, I missed ray again
[03:12:47] <jepler> looks like that's it for fest
[03:12:55] <jepler> cradek: let's not stay at this hotel next year
[03:13:26] <cradek> ok deal
[03:13:47] <cradek> cool, sam youtubed us
[03:14:40] <skunkworks> first one..
[03:14:44] <skunkworks> worked slick
[03:15:15] <skunkworks> those where pretty big files to be posting everywhere :)
[03:15:16] <cradek> that's fun - wish my machine could do it
[03:15:23] <cradek> yeah that was a great idea
[03:15:27] <cradek> is the second one there too?
[03:15:34] <skunkworks> hasn't downloaded here yet
[03:15:58] <skunkworks> 99%
[03:15:58] <jepler> skunkworks: steve didn't seem too worried about his bandwidth limits .. I think it's in the terabytes per month range before it costs him
[03:16:01] <cradek> heh if I'm going to sit there all year, we should at least make the page not refresh anymore
[03:16:23] <cradek> cool, they do have sound
[03:16:32] <skunkworks> if he doesn't mind - I will post both links then.
[03:16:57] <skunkworks> youtube and the original
[03:17:21] <Skullworks-PGAB> I can host stuff if needed too
[03:17:27] <cradek> IthI bet that's great
[03:17:44] <cradek> youtube makes it easy to watch/stream
[03:19:22] <jepler> " Check this box if you would like to add extra security to this computer." -- my browser
[03:19:31] <Skullworks-PGAB> about 2 weeks for documentation to get caught up?
[03:20:04] <Skullworks-PGAB> or is that going to wait for the 2.2 release?
[03:25:47] <cradek> I see jepler updated the gcode quick ref already
[03:25:54] <cradek> not sure about other more detailed docs
[03:26:42] <jepler> I think all the new codes (rigid tapping, feed per rev and constant surface speed) have mentions in the development version of the manual
[03:26:45] <skunkworks> crap - I will have to re-encode the video. It will not allow you to upload a 100mb+ video
[03:26:50] <jepler> that's online of course: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/ updated at least once a day when there are changes in cvs
[03:27:32] <cradek> skunkworks: yuck
[03:28:49] <Skullworks-PGAB> ugly
[03:29:10] <skunkworks> oh well.. Project for another day. :)
[03:31:00] <cradek> dangit my laptop keyboard is crapping out
[03:32:52] <skunkworks> 100mb is the limit. Is there an easy way in linux to re-encode video? of the top of anyones head?
[03:33:14] <cradek> mplayer --something --something-else
[03:33:17] <cradek> or is it mencoder
[03:33:48] <skunkworks> I will have to research it I guess. Thanks :)
[03:33:56] <cradek> sory
[03:34:33] <skunkworks> did you spill something into the keyboard?
[03:34:34] <skunkworks> ;)
[03:34:43] <cradek> don't think I did
[03:34:56] <cradek> it's just the control key (so far)
[03:36:10] <cradek> maybe something like mencoder -vf scale=480:320
[03:36:52] <cradek> I guess it'd be 480x360 to keep the AR
[03:40:03] <cradek> -o newfile.mov
[03:40:36] <cradek> you could mpeg encode it, but I bet that will work crappily because it's all jumpy
[03:40:46] <cradek> oh wait, I'm thinking about the webcam
[03:40:46] <skunkworks> mencoder -vf scale=480:320 -o newfile.mov?
[03:41:01] <cradek> try it with 480:360
[03:41:13] <skunkworks> right - but how do you specify the input file?
[03:41:53] <skunkworks> * skunkworks is copying it to his keychain drive so he can reboot into ubuntu.
[03:42:02] <cradek> after all that maybe
[03:42:13] <cradek> I wish I had thought to grab them from john's computer
[03:43:29] <skunkworks> ok - biab
[03:43:33] <Skullworks-PGAB> I noted the spindle index seek was real slow for the tool change.
[03:43:56] <cradek> yes the orient takes a while because of the gearbox backlash
[03:44:34] <Skullworks-PGAB> thought it might be due to gearing and trying to make a fine move at slow motion
[03:45:07] <cradek> it has to be right on, for the keys to line up
[03:45:32] <cradek> it won't proceed until it's within a degree I think
[03:45:41] <cradek> sometimes it takes some hunting
[03:45:42] <skunkworks> never mind. I won't have wireless in ubuntu.
[03:45:54] <cradek> ah, darn
[03:46:00] <skunkworks> tomorrow.
[03:46:08] <cradek> ok thanks for doing it
[03:46:24] <skunkworks> least I can do.
[03:47:24] <cradek> that's a good way for a lot of people to see it
[03:47:50] <skunkworks> Yes. other than jymmmm - most people use youtube ;)
[03:48:22] <skunkworks> http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?p=309461#post309461
[03:50:30] <Skullworks-PGAB> tapping in a drill chuck... - you are forgiven since it was for R&D.
[03:51:35] <skunkworks> they had very very limited tooling.
[03:51:47] <Skullworks-PGAB> so I heard
[03:52:02] <skunkworks> The ended up using cradek little lathe to make an adaptor to use a small ball end mill.
[03:52:12] <Skullworks-PGAB> did they get into probing much, I know it was on the todo list?
[03:52:35] <cradek> not except some discussions unfortunately
[03:53:16] <cradek> I did write a simulated "object" hal component to probe though, so we can work on it without a real probe
[03:54:15] <cradek> (it's a 1" radius virtual sphere at the origin)
[03:54:34] <Skullworks-PGAB> Still CSS and tapping are major upgrades to EMC functionality. - One of the biggest holdouts for lathe CNC retrofits was threading.
[03:55:39] <Skullworks-PGAB> BTW - you might also try the rigid tap in a lathe with something small like a #6-32
[03:57:19] <cradek> I definitely would if my spindle reversed
[03:57:30] <Skullworks-PGAB> I'm off for a bit - later all
[03:57:35] <cradek> ... and I had a cnc tailstock (I could hack something on to the table though)
[03:57:37] <cradek> goodnight
[04:00:21] <skunkworks> so then - whats on the to do list for next year? ;)
[04:00:31] <cradek> ha
[04:00:42] <cradek> visit boris
[04:00:54] <skunkworks> I can't think of anything more I would want. Yet ;)
[04:01:16] <cradek> yeah, who knows really
[04:06:22] <skunkworks> boris reminds me of berry. nothing really bothers him.
[04:08:23] <skunkworks> fading - night.
[21:51:49] <rayh> steves_logging, bookmark
[21:52:21] <skunkworks> logger_dev: bookmark
[21:52:21] <skunkworks> Just this once .. here's the log: http://www.linuxcnc.org/irc/irc.freenode.net:6667/emcdevel/2007-06-17.txt
[21:54:21] <skunkworks> Hi ray
[22:00:51] <rayh> You back home already?
[22:01:36] <rayh> Just reading back on the irc logs for stuff I missed.
[22:05:42] <rayh> SWP is here. Be back later.
[22:11:52] <skunkworks> yes - back.. Have fun :)
[22:58:13] <jepler> home!
[22:58:21] <jepler> I think cradek and I have the shortest drive of anyone
[23:18:15] <skunkworks> Ah - I beat you..
[23:18:23] <skunkworks> neener neener neener
[23:18:31] <jepler> skunkworks: oh -- OK, second shortest drive
[23:18:34] <skunkworks> ;)
[23:18:48] <skunkworks> shortest drive of the emc developers..
[23:19:19] <skunkworks> no issues?
[23:19:42] <jepler> skunkworks: on the drive? None whatsoever
[23:19:51] <jepler> got some $2.799 gas in des moines
[23:19:55] <skunkworks> Great - non here going home.
[23:20:00] <skunkworks> Yes - so did we.
[23:20:50] <skunkworks> cheap gas that is..
[23:20:55] <skunkworks> 'cheap'
[23:23:26] <DanielFalck> well, did you guys have fun at fest ?
[23:23:35] <skunkworks> the encoders we picked up where 2540 line... wasn't till we where driving home that I figured out why that number seemed vaguely familiar ;)
[23:24:06] <jepler> DanielFalck: yes, a blast
[23:24:11] <jepler> didn't see enough of skunkworks though
[23:24:17] <skunkworks> Aww shucks
[23:25:12] <skunkworks> you only have to wait another year...
