Back
[01:08:00] <a-l-p-h-a_> eeew... pepsi.
[01:11:01] <Skullworks-PGAB> The mountain dew seems untouched since yesterday too
[01:12:03] <a-l-p-h-a_> heh
[01:16:53] <jmkasunich> back from Peoria
[01:16:59] <cradek> and kickapoo
[01:18:36] <skunkworks> road trip? anything good?
[01:18:48] <jmkasunich> CNC punch press
[01:19:32] <jmkasunich> we helped Jack diagnose some noise problems, did a bit of tuning, and updated the motenc driver to solve an index problem
[01:19:49] <skunkworks> very nice
[01:23:38] <skunkworks> anything you guys need that I might have?
[01:24:06] <SWPadnos> yes
[01:24:23] <SWPadnos> (but we don't need it enough for me to know what it is)
[01:24:45] <skunkworks> well - I am not sure I have it.
[01:25:19] <skunkworks> ;
[01:25:22] <skunkworks> ;)
[01:30:16] <a-l-p-h-a_> how do you delete a symbolic link after it's created?
[01:30:22] <SWPadnos> rm
[01:30:31] <a-l-p-h-a_> does that kill the original too??
[01:30:41] <SWPadnos> no, ir unlinks the link (ie, deletes it)
[01:30:44] <SWPadnos> s/ir/it/
[01:31:10] <a-l-p-h-a_> damn... I'll back it up first.
[01:31:14] <a-l-p-h-a_> just in case. :)
[01:34:31] <a-l-p-h-a_> hit the bank while it's downloading. :D
[02:00:49] <jmkasunich> skunkworks: still packing?
[02:00:57] <jmkasunich> thought of something we might be able to use
[02:01:14] <jmkasunich> a dial indicator (preferably a cheap one) and a mag-base
[02:01:20] <jmkasunich> to check repeatability
[02:04:49] <skunkworks> Sure
[02:05:04] <skunkworks> just moved one yesterday.
[13:04:58] <cradek_> cradek_ is now known as cradek
[13:09:14] <jepler> one of us should send a message to the list about what we did at jack's shop, so it's not one of those threads that say "my machine is broken" and tails off into nothing.
[13:35:07] <jepler> "
[13:36:06] <jepler> Northeastern University computer science professor Gene Cooperman and graduate student Dan Kunkle have proven that any configuration of a Rubik's cube can be solved in 26 moves. The research from Cooperman and Kunkle improves upon the previous record by one move. The use of 7 TB of distributed disk as an extension to RAM for holding large tables and the development of faster computer moves using mathematical group theory were keys to their rese
[14:53:07] <skunkworks> HELLO HEllo Hello hello
[15:12:31] <skunkworks> wow - not even alex is on.
[15:12:49] <skunkworks> logger_dev: bookmark
[15:12:49] <skunkworks> Just this once .. here's the log: http://www.linuxcnc.org/irc/irc.freenode.net:6667/emcdevel/2007-06-14.txt
[17:49:10] <skunkworksemc> we will be leaving here by 2:00 or so.. Dial indicator and magnetic base.. check
[17:52:14] <jepler> skunkworksemc: see you this evening, then
[17:52:17] <jepler> have a safe drive
[18:22:43] <rayh> Hi guys. How goes fest?
[18:35:49] <jmkasunich> not bad
[18:35:56] <jepler> rayh: some wood chips were made on the mazak
[18:36:08] <cradek> hi ray
[18:36:44] <jmkasunich> you've seen the spycam right?
[18:36:49] <jepler> did you see the threading photos on my blog? http://axis.unpy.net/01181527543 http://axis.unpy.net/01181704483
[18:37:34] <cradek> rayh: also the mazak does TxM6 correctly now (puts the old tool back in the right pocket, and loads the new tool)
[18:37:59] <jmkasunich> as long as you power up with tool 0 in the spindle
[18:38:23] <jepler> rayh: see you later -- we're going to have lunch
[18:43:05] <rayh> That tool change stuff is great news indeed.
[19:11:18] <jepler> yesterday on jack lambert's machine we diagnosed noise problems on the encoders causing him to lose position -- now they're going to run a similar test on the mazak
[19:11:46] <jepler> dial indicator, running a program that does a move to X1.05, to X1, then pause to read the dial
[19:12:25] <jepler> on jack's machine it routinely lost about .0005 (4 encoder counts) and for whatever reason it was systematically in one direction
[19:18:56] <rayh> Fascinating, jepler
[19:19:24] <rayh> If you see him again, tell Jack hi from me
[19:19:31] <SWPadnos> hiya rayh
[19:19:33] <SWPadnos> how goes it?
[19:19:36] <rayh> Hi Steven
[19:19:58] <rayh> I finally told the drs to go away and work on someone else.
[19:20:15] <SWPadnos> heh
[19:20:19] <SWPadnos> did they listen?
[19:20:25] <rayh> I just left town.
[19:20:32] <SWPadnos> oh, that'll teach 'em
[19:20:55] <rayh> At smithy cleaning up a few tings. Wishing I could get there tomorrow night but I don't think so now.
[19:21:08] <SWPadnos> bummer. I guess we'll have to go there ;)
[19:21:18] <rayh> oops things -- pardon the upperism.
[19:21:43] <rayh> You come by Ann Arbor on the way home?
[19:21:54] <SWPadnos> I actually could, I think
[19:22:14] <rayh> You'd be welcome.
[19:22:33] <rayh> I can email the relevant contact info.
[19:22:36] <SWPadnos> gotta look at a map to see where it actually is though ;)
[19:23:00] <rayh> k I'll be around some tomorrow and saturday.
[19:23:05] <SWPadnos> ah ok - on the way to Detroit
[19:23:22] <rayh> Right. About 30 miles west
[19:23:31] <rayh> 45 miles north of toledo
[19:23:59] <SWPadnos> I'll look into stopping in there. I can take the Canadian route home, but I think Ann Arbor is a haul for a 1-day drive
[19:24:37] <rayh> about 7-8 hours i think
[19:24:52] <SWPadnos> about 11-12 from Ann Arbor to VT, I think ;)
[19:24:56] <SWPadnos> 7-8 from here though
[19:25:06] <SWPadnos> are you ging to still be around on Monday?
[19:25:12] <SWPadnos> (around Ann Arbor, that is :) )
[19:25:13] <rayh> Matt said it was about 11 when he came to NAMES in det.
[19:25:22] <rayh> Yes I'll be here.
[19:25:43] <SWPadnos> ok. if I make it there, I'd probably drive there on Sundayt, then stay the night Sun and Mon, and drive home Tuesday
[19:26:23] <rayh> Sounds great.
[19:26:35] <SWPadnos> I'll let you know in the next day or so
[19:26:46] <rayh> k
[19:33:25] <alex_joni> hi guys
[19:34:12] <jmkasunich> hi alex
[19:37:37] <alex_joni> how are things?
