[03:34:05] <tfmacz> LawrenceG: hi
[03:40:20] <LawrenceG> hi
[04:10:17] <Guest866> Guest866 is now known as skunkworks
[04:42:33] <SWPadnos> jmkasunich, not sure if you're still up (and I'm headed for bed), but I think there's an error in that jogwheel algorithm
[04:42:55] <SWPadnos> it assumes that you're already at full speed
[04:43:33] <SWPadnos> if you start jogging, then you won't ever be able to use a jog increment larger than the decel distance from full speed
[04:44:21] <SWPadnos> also, since the position command will be only the stopping (or starting) distance away, the TP won't get to full speed on that segment, since it has to accel as well
[04:45:11] <SWPadnos> I'm too tired to figure out how much extra time it'll take to get to full speed (if it can) - it may be only 2x as long, but I think it may be some asymptotic approach over many cycles
[04:45:46] <SWPadnos> on that note, good night all
[07:11:16] <alex_joni> hi
[10:25:19] <rayh> rayh is now known as rayh_
[14:01:20] <lerman_> lerman_ is now known as lerman
[15:46:22] <SWPadnos> sigh. I hate it when software crashes
[15:46:41] <SWPadnos> like "file/save as" is an uncommon operation
[21:15:45] <roltek> alex you in
[22:23:30] <jepler> * jepler wonders how to better error-check
[22:23:31] <jepler> if (comp_id < 0) {
[22:23:31] <jepler> fprintf(stderr, "halcmd: hal_init() failed after systemv: %d\n", comp_id );
[22:23:34] <jepler> exit(-1);
[23:09:10] <jmkasunich> jepler: you referring to that bug report?
[23:11:01] <alex_joni> holy sh*t this is crazy: http://unpy.net/incvis/all.svg
[23:16:44] <alex_joni> jepler: nice job
[23:22:53] <roltek> alex where you having a problem with alibre this morning
[23:36:02] <alex_joni> roltek: yeah.. I usually like alibre, but I think the 2D stuff is pretty bad
[23:36:09] <alex_joni> especially importing dwg's
[23:36:47] <alex_joni> I opened 2-3 files (about 1-2MB each) and alibre was up to 600MB RAM used.. and my system was sluggish (which shouldn't happen :D
[23:39:20] <roltek> i usaully work in dfx but have never had a lot of luck with importing files
[23:40:19] <roltek> the only thing i seen this morning was on line's moving around to fix it lock the line
[23:41:07] <roltek> overall i like using it and it is cheap for doing 3d
[23:41:40] <alex_joni> I agree
[23:42:03] <roltek> hole different world then 2d
[23:42:56] <SWPadnos> hmmm. I can't tell if cadmax has gone out of business. that would suck a bit
[23:44:13] <alex_joni> I ended up using corel draw if you can imagine :)
[23:44:31] <alex_joni> not a real CAD, but imports dxf and dwg just fine
[23:44:54] <alex_joni> and it's been used for CAM before I think
[23:46:07] <SWPadnos> Corel is great for lots of things, though the UI isn't very "CAD-ish"
[23:46:18] <roltek> i still use an old program for my lathe called ultrpath
[23:46:28] <SWPadnos> snap and trim all works as you'd expect, and you can manually edit object dinmensions and rotation
[23:46:43] <SWPadnos> roltek, you're in the San Jose area, right?
[23:46:53] <roltek> wisconsin
[23:47:01] <SWPadnos> I guess that would be a no :)
[23:47:05] <SWPadnos> what part?
[23:47:17] <roltek> that's why i see ray from time to time
[23:47:28] <SWPadnos> heh
[23:47:33] <roltek> 20 miles west of milwaukee
[23:47:55] <SWPadnos> ok. a little shouth of my sister-in-law, and a ways south of the parents in-law
[23:48:09] <SWPadnos> (Ripon and Manitowoc, respectively)
[23:49:22] <roltek> i just wish i could get the hang of emc
[23:50:07] <SWPadnos> hmmm. it should be easy for someone with your experience - are the issues with installation, configuration, operation ???
[23:50:57] <roltek> no problem running or programming
[23:51:07] <SWPadnos> ok, so config then :)
[23:51:19] <alex_joni> installing should be fairly simple too :)
[23:51:23] <roltek> instalation and alwys wanting to do something different
[23:51:26] <SWPadnos> heh
[23:51:33] <roltek> alwys
[23:51:41] <roltek> always
[23:51:51] <roltek> and typing fast
[23:51:52] <SWPadnos> do you have suggestions for improvements to documentation, the wiki, manpages ... ?
[23:54:26] <roltek> really don't know how to answer that
[23:55:20] <alex_joni> just say no :P
[23:55:34] <roltek> i think you guys do a good job just don't have enough experience
[23:55:36] <alex_joni> kidding ..
[23:55:57] <roltek> backround in gear design
[23:56:26] <SWPadnos> ok
[23:56:52] <roltek> 17 years at kearney and trecker
[23:57:20] <SWPadnos> sometimes it's hard to understand why something that I know isn't easy for someone else to grasp - sort of "experience blinders"
[23:57:41] <SWPadnos> sometimes changing the wording of a single sentence can help immensely
[23:58:31] <roltek> now if you want to learn about winston cup transmission's i can teach you
[23:58:38] <alex_joni> * alex_joni heads to bed
[23:58:40] <SWPadnos> heh
[23:58:43] <alex_joni> roltek: some other time ;)
[23:58:46] <SWPadnos> that would be cool... some day ;)
[23:58:50] <SWPadnos> see you Alex
[23:58:53] <roltek> see ya later
[23:58:56] <alex_joni> now all I care about is little white sheep
[23:59:30] <alex_joni> good night all
